FYI
BYE BYE MUMU ... It
has been said the nation is in the midst of another baby boom. A look
around Palo Alto might just confirm the assertion. Filling a need for
those experiencing the rapid body changes of pregnancy, Mom's the Word
has just opened up at Town & Country Village, offering designer
maternity fashions to the Midpeninsula. The collection at Mom's the
Word is designed to help expectant mothers navigate maternity without
having to hide their bodies under mumus. "You don't become a different
person when you become pregnant," company CEO and Founder Sarah Pollak
said. The 12-year-old company has other Bay Area locations in San
Francisco and Walnut Creek.
WRAP SHEETS ... Eco-capitalists TerraCycle
— best known for their eco-friendly "Worm Poop" fertilizer — have
teamed up with energy-bar maker Clif Bar to establish energy-bar
wrapper recycling locations across the country. The goal is to keep the
wrappers out of landfills, but the campaign serves other purposes as
well. For starters, TerraCycle donates 2 cents per wrapper to the
charity of choice identified by the administrator of each collection
location — Palo Alto has two. Second, the wrappers are eventually woven
together to create fashion accessories. E-mail Palo Alto's volunteers
Josh (theminimum@mac.com) or Pam at pmcleod@wholetravel.com to find out
how you can participate.
DIGITAL CONFERENCE ROOM ... Teleconferences
are nothing new, but a new HP deal with Marriott International
announced last week could be changing the way people feel when they
participate in one. Even though the technology for live video
conferencing has been around for years, HP has been tweaking the look
and feel of the virtual conference interface in its Halo Telepresence
Rooms, which allow teams in up to four separate locations to talk to
each other as if they were just across the table from them. The new
alliance with Marriott will create public access points for such
meetings around the world.
