Cat 4 Women's Challenge
Thanks
to underwriting from two WCA clubs, Brazen Dropouts (Madison) and 1%
More/Beans & Barley (Milwaukee), the new cat 4 women's challenge
has begun.
Sponsorship
is being allocated to every WCA club race that hosts a separate Cat 4
women's race, with funds to be used for a cash prize list for the Cat 4
women.
The
season started strong with 20 cat 4s lined up in Sheboygan so
thanks to Brazen Dropouts and Beans & Barley for helping provide
women with a race venue to learn the sport. Click here

USA Cycling
License Information
- Did
you know that $10 of your annual USA Cycling membership is returned to
WCA to help provide things like rider upgrade processing, officials
training and recruitment, and resources to promoters? Every membership
a Wisconsin rider takes directly helps racing in Wisconsin.
- Are
you racing with a one-day license? If a rider purchases up to
two one-day licenses and sends in the receipt(s), the rider can
get up to $10($5 per one-day) off the annual membership. This
means that the "try before you buy" concept will cost
the rider no money. The rider will have to mail in the license
application with the receipts attached as currently USAC does
not have a way to make this work with the online system however,
go ahead an try cycling and then consider an annual membership.
It's
easy to get an annual license. Just click on this button.

A
Day at a UCI World Cup Track Event Heidi Mingesz,
WCAs Technical Director was selected as an official for the World
Cup Track event in Los Angeles last week. A world cup event is similar
to, say, a NFC Play off game; lots of hype, tight regulations and
nerves are on edge. Heidi sent this "postcard" from L.A. about her
experience. Enjoy! read

UW
Cycling's "Tour Baby" Cancelled from Ashley
Simon, Vice President UW Cycling Club: "Between the low
ticket sales, bad weather, and Obama at the Kohl Center, it's in
the club's best interest to cancel the event. It is very disheartening
for those that have put countless hours into the event. For those
of you that were planning on coming, I thank you for supporting
our club."
Clif
Bar Wrappers Worth Cash! Clif Bar is partnering
with TerraCycle to reduce the number of energy bar wrappers in landfills.
The Wrapper Brigade program asks us to collect energy bar wrappers
(any brand), send them in, and receive 2 cents apiece for a charity
that we choose. The collected wrappers will be recycled into outdoor
products like backpacks. If you're interested, sign up for Wrapper
Brigade by visiting: http://www.terracycle.net/brigades.
There is no cost to participate. Participants get four collection bags
that
hold 200 energy bar wrappers each. You simply mail the collection bags
back to TerraCycle and designate the charity you want to support. All
shipping costs are covered by the program to encourage people to
collect
as many wrappers as possible.
WCA will figure out how to collect wrappers at races and send the
funds to the Matt Wittig Memorial Foundation. If someone would like
to assist, please contact: becx6132@gmail.com.
Wisco
Riders Light up Kansas City Cross Natz If you haven't
heard there is much to be proud of by way of Wisconsin riders who
represented well at Cross nationals in Kansas City over the weekend.
Marko LaLonde (Bare Knuckle Brigade) rode away with the Single Speed
race and donned the first of what is sure to be many National Championship
jerseys. Anna Young (Bop) held a healthy lead over her podium mates
in the junior women division and Diane Ostenso took the Masters
50+ women’s race. Other Wisconsinites braving the muddy, icy
course were Renee Callaway, John Ericsson, Paul Roltgen, John McNeil,
Patti Kaufman, Gordy Paulson, Samantha Schneider, and Tristan Schouten
to name a few. Good job to all!
